POSITION SUMMARY:

To ensure the effective and timely development and implementation of health education programming including, but not limited to, HIV prevention targeting transgender women of color in the C.L.A.S.S. program designed to assist in the development of life-skills, education, sexual health education, public speaking and community organizing.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Program Coordinator in the development of workshop curriculum, health education sessions and peer education curriculum and programming.
  • Serve as facilitator for group level interventions and trainings.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of collaborative network of local Los Angeles service providers and other transgender programs.
  • Work with the Evaluation Specialist to develop and implement program evaluations, quality improvement plans, and to develop and implement program curricula.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of community events and forums.
  • Track, log and compile all referrals as directed and outlined in the Scope of Work/Contract.
  • Ensure the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate services.
  • Prepare quantitative and qualitative reports as assigned. Assist with data entry and other administrative tasks.
  • Attend community/public meetings as necessary.
  • Assist in providing outreach activities to transgender women of color.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a community mobilization plan targeting outreach venues.

OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Training and Experience:

Associate’s degree in human services related field OR two year’s experience working in the HIV field or health education. At least two years’ experience working with the transgender population and have extensive knowledge of psychosocial issues related to HIV/AIDS is preferred.

 

Knowledge of:

Interviewing and crisis-management techniques; psychosocial and mental health factors affecting quality of life for Transgender Persons; data management; HIV/AIDS-related issues; general computer knowledge and community resources.

 

HIV care, treatment and prevention service delivery system; HIV pathogenesis, symptoms, approved HIV treatments and clinical trials; co-morbidities, such as viral hepatitis, TB and other related diseases; HIV-related research procedures and structures; program evaluation; epidemiology of HIV transmission and general epidemiological tools; HIV testing; HIV risk-reduction techniques; health behavior theories and models; health literacy; cultural competency; and communities most impacted by HIV/AIDS.

 

Health disparities; biomedical interventions; spectrum of HIV and STD disease; harm reduction theory; behavior modification theory; human sexuality, substance use and abuse, motivational interviewing techniques; and social concerns of diverse populations of transgender persons of color; risk reduction theory; principles of social marketing; and knowledge of the most effective ways to engage the population at venues where they target population congregate (including the Internet).

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This is primarily an office position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires daily use of a personal computer and requires entering, viewing, and revising text and graphics on the computer terminal and on paper.

 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid California driver’s license; proof of auto liability insurance; and have the use of a personal vehicle for work related purposes.
