The Actors Fund, a nationwide human services organization that helps all professionals in performing arts and entertainment, seeks a Social Worker to provide intensive clinical case management services, groups, seminars and trainings to performing artists and entertainment professionals, unions and employers, who are affected by substance use. This program helps people achieve and maintain sobriety and abstinence and assists family members, partners, friends, or colleagues who are dealing with the effects of substance use.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Social Worker for Addiction and Recovery Services will engage and work collaboratively with a wide variety of individuals, their families and significant others in a clinical process that facilitates development of bio-psychosocial assessments and treatment planning. They will respond to crises and intervene effectively, provide intensive clinical case management, evaluate and advocate for financial assistance, as well as serve as a liaison to internal and external programs and resources on behalf of the industry professional.

The Social Worker will make treatment referrals, to stabilize health and mental health and encourage the personal growth of professionals with substance use problems. They will provide supportive counseling as part of the therapeutic process to achieve identified treatment goals and outcomes and assist in coordinating necessary support services such as of entitlements, benefits, housing, educational/vocational needs, addressing financial management and facilitating financial stability.  

The Social Worker will collaborate and advocate with unions, industry management and community organizations to facilitate achievement of treatment goals.  When essential to ensuring continuity of care they will visit people at home, in the hospital and/or at treatment programs. They will identify and develop relationships with new community resources, treatment facilities, and clinicians. Working with the Supervisor of Addiction and Recovery Services the Social Worker will participate in outreach to the performing arts and entertainment community, assisting with curriculum development and facilitation of groups, seminars or trainings that address substance use in the entertainment industry.

 

 

  • Masters in Social Work from an accredited School of Social Work and state licensure, LCSW or LMSW, are required.
  • To perform this job successfully an individual should possess strong case management and advocacy skills with the ability to consistently convey a sense of empathy and demonstrate solid clinical acumen. 
  • Experience in working with addiction, recovery and harm reduction is helpful, as well as post-graduate experience with advanced psycho-dynamic training and employee assistance programs/member assistance programs.
  • Familiarity with public benefits is helpful.
  • May be required to work an adjusted schedule; evening or weekend hours.
